I don’t know what’s been going on lately but it seems that the latest fashion in Brazil is to abandon newly-born babies in weird fatal places – trash cans, a bag that will be smashed real soon, an abandoned building, a plastic bag floating on a river…everyday we’ve been hearing this sort of news (thankfully, the babies are always found alive and taken care of afterwards). When it’s not the case, we hear about women who steal and/or have stolen newborn babies in hospitals. What’s the matter people?????
I can understand how it must be a desperate situation when you get pregnant and the "father" doesn’t want to assume the child, or when you get pregnant and you’re so poor that you barely have enough to feed yourself, let alone a child…or when you already have 10 kids and that’s going to be the 11th or whatever…but…can’t you just leave the child with one of the countless priests or nuns (or to any institution) to give the child to adoption instead of letting it die slowly??? This is worse than abortion even, Jesus!!!
As for the women who steal babies…come onnnn!!!!!! There are SO many babies (see above) being abandoned everyday, so many orphans and kids who have been mistreated in the past who are available…why go to a hospital where there’s a perfectly happy new mother and take away her most precious creation?? arghghghgh
These are some of the reasons why I totally disagree with the theory that women are "naturally" docile and caring, and have a "motherly instinct" or a "visceral" relationship with their children, therefore she should be the one who "naturally" has the right to remain with their child…
