Let me begin with the one that’s been most talked about since last Friday: the biggest airplane crash in the history of brazilian aviation. Nobody knows for certain what happened, the case is under investigation, but the fact is that a plane (a 737 Boeing, to be more precise) with 154 people crashed in the amazonian jungle, apparently after having collided with a small jet that had just been bought by an american company and was on its way to the US.
My first reaction to this news was: "Whoa, how come 2 planes can crash just like that??", and my second reaction, a few seconds later, was "And how come the small one manages to remain almost intact with nobody injured, while the big one has no survivors at all?"
– and that’s exactly what the investigators are asking themselves.
Of course, the jet members were glad nothing happened to them, and they didn’t even notice (allegedly) what happened, it was 5 pm on a clear-sky day and they say they only heard a loud crash, their plane shook and that’s it, they saw there was a part of their wing was missing, and attempted to land the closest airport nearby, which was 30 minutes away.
The problem was that one of these passengers was a journalist, and apparently he published an incomplete account of what happened, ommiting the fact that 154 people died, and claiming that the pilot of the jet was a hero. This article made a lot of people angry, because the investigations so far lead to the fact that the pilot and the co-pilot didn’t stick to the route that was given to them by the airspace authorities (telling them in which altitude they should fly), that they disregarded the warnings given by the control towers by radio, and that they supposedly turned off the anti-collision device, that warns the pilot about the presence of another airplane, and that warns the OTHER airplane that this plane is there. So…so far, so nothing. A few bodies were recovered, but the rescuers found mostly only remains of bodies and personal belongings
There was no explosion because the pilot probably turned off the engines when he saw they were going down, but still the whole airplane is completely destroyed due to its velocity. To make matters worse, the plane fell in the middle of nowhere, that makes the searches and conditions of work very bad for the rescuers, they can’t breath properly in the closed jungle, they’re having to cut trees to open clear spaces and remove the remains, they’re having to watch for wild animals who attack the corpses in decompostion…it seems terrible just by what I’ve read from the accounts, imagine the REAL conditions!!!
The second tragedy happened a few days later, when ANOTHER plane crashed!! This one had 3 or 4 passengers aboard, and it was about to land when it suddenly exploded
Nobody knows why, but there’s the hypothesis of a bird having entered one of the engines while the pilot made the necesary manouvres to land…
Lots of people believe that tragedies happens in threes…when one plane crash, 3 will crash. When someone close to you dies, other 2 people that you know will die soon too. When something in your house breaks, 3 things will break. Me, I don’t really have this kind of belief, but ever since I’ve heard about it and started noticing this type of thing, it seems to be pretty accurate! eeeeeeeekkkkThese past few days, for instance, my brother crashed his car, my mother’s car’s window exploded out of the blue and our shower burned.
In the case of Brazil, I suppose another airplane will crash….either that or the elections we’ve had last weekend were the so-feared 3rd disaster we feared so much
Lots of corrupt politicians, against whom there are TONS of proof, were reelected. Luckily, though, many of them lost the elections and other traditional (equaly corrupt) politicians are out for now too. Phew. It isn’t over though, we’ll have to decide who our president will be…I’d like it to be anyone but Lula.
But enough of this pessimism! To show you how cool planes and flying can be metaaaallll, here’s our dear pilot Bruce Dickinson
, flying "on your wayyyyyy, like an eagleeeeee, fly as high as the suuuunnnnnn!!!!!!!!" heheheh
